INTOXICANTS, GAMBLING, IDOLS, FORTUNE ARROWS: DIRTINESS AND THE DEVIL’S WORK

The 90th verse of the sura “The Feast” refers to: 1- intoxicants (khamr), 2- gambling (maysir), 3- idols (ansab), 4- fortune arrows (azlam); and then describes these with two adjectives: 1- the devil’s work (amelil-sheytan), 2- dirtiness (rijs).

The first four items mentioned above are used 12 times in total. The two qualities used for these four items are also used 12 times in the Quran. As can be seen here, the mathematical miracle of the Quran is not presented in one single form. God shows different creations in the universe, and different types of mathematical miracles in the Quran. The four items and the two adjectives are shown in the verse below:

90- O you who believe, intoxicants, gambling, idols and
fortune arrows are dirtiness of the devil’s work.
So keep away from them, that you may prosper.
