DOOMSDAY HOUR AND THE UNSEEN

In the Quran the word “doomsday hour” (saat) is used to describe the end of the universe and of our world. Even our Prophet was asked when was the time for the “doomsday hour” (7-Araf, 187); and it was revealed to our Prophet that only God knew this information. In the next verse, it is stated that our Prophet does not know the “unseen” (gayb). In our day, when we consider that there are many “doomsday hour” predictors, we better understand the importance of this information’s being described as “gayb” by the Quran. These related words “doomsday hour” and “unseen” are used equally in the Quran, 48 times each. Below is a verse where these words are used together:

3- The unbelievers say “Never to us will come the doomsday hour.” Say “Nay! But most surely, by my Lord, it will come upon you;- by Him Who knows the unseen< , from Whom is not hidden the least little atom in the heavens or on earth.
34-Sheba, 3
